All volunteer candidates are required to provide a successful police and vulnerable person record check, complete orientation, and pass all training modules in order to qualify and be certified to provide support services to victims in Sioux Lookout and Lac Seul First Nation.

Once certified, the volunteer responds to crisis situations and provides:

  • Confidential emotional support to victim(s)

  • Respect and understanding

  • Referral information for further assistance

  • Accompaniment to police, hospital, court, and other safe zones

  • Arrange transportation for victim(s) to safe location

  • Other practical assistance as needed.


  • Must be 18 years of age and older

  • Responsible

  • Have good communication skills

  • Able to deal with crisis situations

  • Commit to one full year of service with a minimum of 4 shifts per month

  • Attend and participate additional training provided

  • Be culturally sensitive
